Heat through the head
You lose most of your body heat through your head.
The head loses heat at about the same rate per square inch as the rest of you. It is roughly a tenth of your surface, so it accounts for roughly a tenth of the loss, give or take, depending on what else is covered. A hat helps because the head is usually the only bare skin left.
A 1950s US Army experiment put volunteers in arctic survival suits with their heads uncovered and measured where the heat went. It went out of the only part that was not insulated, which made it a study of suits, and the field manual turned it into a rule about heads.
